I had the opportunity to take part on the first ever  GRAZIA’S STYLE AWARDS 2016 by GRAZIA Womens Magazine in Qatar as I have applied makeup for Qatar’s fashion blogger CLUMSY CHIC. Get to know more about the entire process of how we got through the big event: from preparations, makeup look application, the red carpet, winners, and meeting international fashion designer Alice Temperley of Temperley London for the first time.

Making sure Clumsy Chic is always red carpet ready with her makeup.

Getting ready with Karen Nicolet of Clumsy Chic is always a pleasure. No matter how busy our schedules were, we try our best to chat late at night and perhaps, make our ends meet once or twice a month. The style-stepper she is, made it easier for me as I am a fashion-enthusiast as well. I think the key to being a good makeup artist is understanding clients, think about fashion, and research about trends. We exchanged ideas of looks and trends prior to the event to coordinate what matches her outfit. I have decided to apply her makeup inspired by F/W “metallic and frost” trend in a more polished and softer version, as she is wearing a red dress. Yes, we are ditching the red or maroon lips as it is always the “play safe” look everyone goes to do. I don’t want to do the common red-lipstick red-outfit kind of look. Her hair styled in a minimal pony to focus more on her outfit. Accompanied by her ever-supportive husband, photographer Anthony Nicolet, he is also part of Karen’s success as he is taking behind-the-scenes, and outfit photos for the blog. We got prepared on her brother’s house with her lovely baby, Moon.

The soft “metallic and frost” look:

  • Skin: natural and barely there look like radiant Hollywood A-listers on red carpets. I have used D&G Matte foundation + Clarins skin care mixed together to give her a radiant glow and right amount of matte areas. I have used NARS “Orgasm” blush on her cheeks to accentuate her cheeks. Very minimal contouring was done. To correct and conceal, I have applied Maybelline Age Rewind concealer on desired areas. I used Benefit “Hoola” for a more natural shade. A lot of M.A.C. Fix + was sprayed before and after for a more refreshed skin.
  • Eyes: To get a red carpet look, I have used Mario Dedivanovic Master Palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills eye shadow palette. Used matte shadow on crease and frost on the lids. Waterline was rimmed with M.A.C. Fascinating white long-lasting eye kohl  to make her eyes pop, and eliminate redness. Drugstore individual eyelashes were used on her eyes for a natural and fresh wisp. Her brows were individually drawn by using ABH Pomade Brow wiz + Inglot brow gel liner.
  • Lips: For a 3d effect, I have used a warm shade from Kat von D everlasting liquid lipstick in “Lolita” and a metallic shade from Ofra Cosmetics liquid lipstick on the center of her lips.

The event was flocked with Qatar’s hottest fashionistas, bloggers, makeup artists, agencies, photographers, influencers, talents, and brand management. I have met friends who I haven’t seen in years, designers whom I have worked with, and clients via my M.A.C. Cosmetics days. In partnership with Salam stores, Amouage, Mercedez Benz, and The Westin Doha Hotel & Spa. Style Hunter was also present to go thoroughly with stylish guests and take photos of their outfits. I was also pictured by them. Everyone received goodie bags from the sponsors. Dinner and beverages was served.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WINNERS

Upon announcing the nominees and the official winners, I was honestly nervous and rooting for Karen’s win. I can’t think of any fashion/lifestyle blogger like her that has been blogging for 7 years whom is informative and detailed as her, in which every women can relate to: be it an average person like me or to those who are influential (in terms of social media). Her husband Anthony was so sweet enough to be there to be her solid rock, while their baby daughter Moon is of course, their source of inspiration.

Knowing Karen since we were both in Philippine School Doha when we were younger, she was really into fashion and that she values the true essence of blogging of proper documentation, experiences, and scouting. And when it was the turn of “Best blogger of the year award”, announced by TheRealFouz….she won! Yes, Clumsy Chic won! I was with her through her walk, documenting her win! Layla Al-Siyabi  is the first runner up. While EatSleepBeFancy is the second runner up. I am very proud of her win. Everyone from the Qatar community and all Filipinos are proud of her winning.

ROOTING for ALICE TEMPERLEY OF TEMPERLEY LONDON

dsc00100rBefore the awards night started, we saw Alice Temperley of Temperley London. She was 2 inches away from my back. But she had a personal assistant to handle her as it was a busy day, and she is a well-known fashion designer in the international fashion world. Karen, fellow blogger/ professional Filipino singer Haina Uddin, and I was hoping to make our night complete with a picture from her. But, it seemed really difficult. Style Hunter was also running around to gather stylish guests. So we headed off to our table as the event starts and light dinner was served.

dsc00098rAt the end of the event, after the picture taking, socializing, and interviews, everyone started to go. Karen and the winners are in queu to take official pictures on stage, while others were patiently waiting for their rides home, or going to the after party. We all know Karen is also a mother to her baby Moon and she is already missing her Moon the entire night. But before she heads out to the official photo sessions, I told Karen, “Dear, I will not let this night pass without us having our pictures taken by her. It’s a privilege. Especially for your win. Besides, your GRAZIA trophy, having a once-in-a-lifetime impromtu conversation with her and a photo is also another win-win.”

As soon as we turned our back, she was there…standing with the vips! Karen took her chance to wait for Alice to be free. And finally, it happened! Alice congratulated her and I told her as well that I was a huge fan of her work way back my M.A.C. days. F.Y.I., M.A.C. had a limited edition makeup collection under her line. So we took pictures as well!

It was a happy ending. I forgot that TheRealFouz was even there. I have Karen’s win, and Alice Temperley complete my night. And as soon as we were heading home, the Salam Stores team whom invited Karen for the private brunch the next day with Alice, also invited me. (I will share on the next post about the brunch).

Congratulations Clumsychic and Eqlipse (whom happen to be my friends The Al-Dafa Family) for your win!!! And to everyone who was nominated and all the winners. Congratulations to everyone whom took part on the event. Special thanks to Clumsychic and Victoria Ferraris on this special day. Grazia Magazine Qatar, so proud of you! Thankful of the giveaways, too!
